Since I avoided anything at the driver level, the result was very hacky. Other app hosting a service (to avoid UWP restrictions) listens for requests by the universal app to send input to the system Universal Windows App retrieves readings from a the gamepad
As a nerd who was desperate to avoid my "quick save reach", I made a workaround for mapping the paddles to keys: There has been a lot of demand for the ability to map the paddles of the Elite Controller to keys on the keyboard. While this applies to PC gaming, I think a lot of people around here will find it useful or interesting. TL DR: "Elite" on GitHub - Please read the deployment instructions in the readme.
